Client
Liverpool City Council – Intern 2 Work
Challenge
Hold a series of workshops with supported interns, employers and parent carers to shape the next Intern 2 Work promotional posters, videos and
social media.
Solution
LCC came to us to facilitate workshops, videos and create designed materials that they can use to promote their Intern 2 Work programme, a valuable programme for 16-25 year olds supporting interns with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities into the workplace. There is often a big assumption around people with SEND being unable to work or manage “normal” life, so Intern 2 Work exists to facilitate the transition of the young person to working life with great success.
We held three workshops in June with the suppported interns, parent carers and employers and got some amazing feedback from them, along with ideas and information about what they needed to know. Each group had different needs, for example, employers wanted to know how best to host interns and what support they would get. Parents/carers wanted to know why they should consider their young person doing an internship, and had many worries around “letting go” and the Supported Interns wanted to tell other interns what the best thing about being an intern has been.
It was incredibly valuable, particularly speaking with the current interns, who were willing to share their ideas and thoughts freely. Based on their feedback, we were able to complile a series of posters and timelines targeted to the three specific groups, filled with information to help navigate Supporterd Internships. We then created a series of posters and timelines that can be found here.
Alongside this, we worked with the lovely Guide Liverpool on three case studies about successful interns and a general video explaining the. Filming on location at Schuh, Sovini and Princes Primary school and speaking to the Supported Interns, their job coaches and the employer about the success they have had in their placements. These can be viewed here.
It was an absolute pleasure to work on this project and wish this years supported interns, good luck!
